Fundraising BBQ – Macedon Square Woolworths Templestowe, Saturday 18 July 2015

Last Saturday the 18th Of July, two of our board members braved the cold to run a BBQ at the Macedon Square Woolworths in Templestowe Vic, to raise funds and awareness for survivors of child sexual abuse. This is the second fundraising BBQ that has been held by Restoring Hope this month and the organisation has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the shoppers who stopped to buy a sausage in bread to warm up and help a worthy cause.

Why fundraising events are important

However, raising funds isn’t the only reason why running events like this are important. It is also about raising awareness in the community for an issue that even in this day and age is extremely taboo, and not often talked about openly, if at all.

The board members were excited to have the opportunity to discuss what Restoring Hope Inc. is all about with passersby who wanted to know more about what the organisation does and why. It also gave them the chance to openly discuss the issue of childhood sexual abuse, and to draw awareness to the staggering number of children affected and the issues that survivors are faced with on their journey to recovery.

Thanks to those who helped

Restoring Hope would like to thank everyone who has taken a moment to say thank you to the wonderful people who bought a sausage, helping us to raise much needed funds, and to those who took some time to have a chat and learn more about an issue that in reality, affects us all as a community.
